THE NORTHERN TRUST 2020 will see the PGA TOUR’s return to New England and TPC Boston, which has hosted the Dell Technologies Championship since 2003, and will play as the opening event to the 2020 FedExCup Playoffs.
“We are excited that THE NORTHERN TRUST will be played at Liberty National in 2019 and TPC Boston in 2020, as we rotate between Boston and New York/New Jersey as the host of THE NORTHERN TRUST,” said Julie Tyson, Senior Vice President of Championship Management for the PGA TOUR. “The New York and New Jersey Metropolitan area and Boston are consistently recognized as being two of the largest and most passionate fan bases in sports, and that includes their support of the PGA TOUR over the years. It was a natural progression to rotate between the two markets and continue to tell this tournament’s story as the kickoff to the FedExCup Playoffs. The earlier start and finish of the FedExCup Playoffs creates the most compelling season possible for our players, fans and partners.”
With the shift in the 2018-19 schedule to conclude in August, the FedExCup Playoffs were reduced from four events to three and the Dell Technologies Championship in the Boston area was removed from the 2019 schedule to accommodate the changes. THE NORTHERN TRUST will remain the first FedExCup Playoffs event and continue to welcome the top 125 in the FedExCup standings when it returns to Liberty National Golf Club in 2019.
Known as one of the world’s most picturesque courses with views of the Hudson River, Manhattan skyline, and the Statue of Liberty, Liberty National has previously hosted the first FedExCup Playoffs event in 2009 and 2013. The course, which first opened in 2006, has also hosted the 2017 Presidents Cup, which the United States Team won 19-11 over the International Team.Subcribe Now
